Meet Tom

Passionate for helping people live their best lives.

Hi, I’m Tom

Ever since I can remember I was told what a good listener I am, and I’ve always been fascinated by human behavior. This combination naturally led me to major in Communication as an undergraduate and obtaining a Masters degree in Counseling from Minnesota State University.

Now I am a Licensed Psychologist with forty years of professional experience providing high-quality, integrative, person-centered individual, couples, and group psychotherapy.

I enjoy working with emancipated adults, both individually and as couples. I also offer consultation for helping professionals, assisting them navigate challenging client and patient situations and maintain balance between their personal and professional lives.

I hold a special place in my heart for highly sensitive people (HSPs), members of historically underrepresented groups, members of the LGBTQIAP2S+ communities, artists and other creatives, and those with active spiritual lives.

More Info

A fan of lifelong learning, over the years I have taken deep dives into Gestalt Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. I have also studied Buddhism and Native American teachings for many years. These ancient practices resonate deeply, and inform both my work and the way I live my life.

Teaching is another passion. For professionals, I have presented at international conferences on mindfulness in psychotherapy, and created and co-taught a course titled The Foundations of Mindful Therapy. For laypeople, I have taught courses on happiness, wellness, assertiveness, emotional intelligence, coping with crisis, reducing anxiety, handling change, optimism, resilience, sex ed, and more. I am also a registered yoga teacher.   A former radio host myself, having created The Living Happiness Radio Hour, in more recent years I’ve appeared as a guest on about a hundred podcasts, talking mostly about happiness, positive psychology, and resilience.

Meet Rex

Meet Rex, the unofficial therapy dog. Rex is a well-trained, unobtrusive mini-labradoodle. He is friendly, calm, and hypoallergenic, so won’t bother your allergies.

He tends to greet folks when they arrive and then is content to take a long nap so he won’t interrupt your time.
